How can i tell if the turbo in my VW pat is working right?

Just got my car out of the shop a few weeks ago for collision repair. I just noticed this weekend that the rpms are climbing steadily as i push the gas and it takes the speed a while to climb. (kind of like it just revs up) its weird. i don't think this is normal. any suggestions? thanks :)
