How is gasoline refined to yield regular, premium and diesel grade fuels?

Why are the prices so different for premium grade fuels vs.diesel fuel? I was under the impression that diesel fuel required less refining than the others, yet it costs more at the pump. I would like to understand the refining process moire in-depth.
